Today I am 30

Today I turn 30. Thirty. I’ve been saying it over and over. It seems old and young all at the same time.

I’m not sad about turning 30, if anything- recently I’ve been reminded to be extremely GRATEFUL for EVERY birthday. So I’m sitting here, reflecting on the last TEN years of my life (there is literally so much change that has happened, so much growth, it’s almost impossible to really think of it all) This is not to say that I have it all figured out- lord knows I do NOT. I still call my mom for help, last week I cried on the floor, I don’t know how to change a tire and I don’t drink enough water. BUT, there are plenty of things I did figure out, and learn, and do, and try, and fail at, and grow from.

20 Things I Learned in my Twenties

  1. It’s good to say “YES” to things

Do the things, make the memories, be with your people. Your couch and your bed will always be there. Be present and step out of your comfort zone.

  2. It’s also okay to say “NO” to things

Be intentional. Listen to your body. It’s OKAY to need to rest.

It’s OKAY to need time for yourself. It’s OKAY to say no.

  3. Your happiness is YOUR choice.

keyword: choice choose to be happy, and you will be.

  4. Your health should be a PRIORITY

workout. eat healthy. give yourself rest. listen to your body. floss. stretch. breathe deeply. sweat daily. you only have one body, take care of it. do it for you.

  5. Save your money, don’t go into debt

Put a percentage away each month in your savings account. Don’t touch it.

Get a credit card. Pay it off. Build your credit score.

  6. Invest the rest

Time is your friend with investing. Do it early. Do it often.

  7. Spend time with your parents

Quality time. Good time. Talking, laughing, being together.

They are my favorite humans and I love them so much.

  8. CELEBRATE even the little things

Don’t wait for the big milestones, find the little joys in accomplishing small goals and tiny daily wins. I flossed today, HIGH FIVE.

  9. Remember that tomorrow is not guaranteed

You are truly only promised up until this very moment. Say I love you OFTEN, tell people what they mean to you, don’t go to bed angry, be grateful for today.

  10. Find a way to laugh EVERY day

    Don’t take yourself too seriously.

  11. A handwritten note goes a long way

Let others know you appreciate them. Make eye contact. Use your words. Go out of your way for someone else.

  12. Eat the cake and take the vacation

Life is short, refer to #11.

  13. Time is the most valuable thing we have

It’s a limited resource. It can’t be renewed, and it goes by faster the more we use it.

  14. Comparison is the thief of joy

    You do you, boo.

Be the very best version of who YOU are and that is all that matters.

  15. Expectations are the root of disappointment

One I’ve had to learn. If you’re going to have expectations about something, make sure they are clear and well communicated.

  16. Its good to do the things that scare you

If it scares you, it will push you outside of your comfort zone.

It is there you will learn and grow.

  17. Everyone is going through something

We are all human. We all have hard shit. The person next to you may be doing everything in their power to not fall apart. We ALL have shit we’re going through.

  18. You can find work that you LOVE

It’s out there. If you are truly passionate about it and you pursue it with every ounce of your being, it can happen.

  19. Negativity is contagious

Cut out negative people and spaces. It’s contagious, it spreads, and you don’t need that kind of darkness in your life.

  20. Be Kind.

no explanation needed. if there was ONE thing I learned in my 20’s, it is to be KIND. Be kind to others, be kind to YOURSELF. Give, Love, Be Softer, Be Warmer- the world is cold and hard enough, spread any kind of light you can.
