What to Wear for Your Mt. Rainier Engagement Session
Brigitte and Sean's engagement session took place inside of Mt. Rainier National Park. Brigitte asked me what to wear to her engagement session, but Brigitte is a lifestyle blogger from Seattle, so I knew they would show-up in some super cute outfits for their session!
Brigitte texted me photos of the outfits all laid out at home, and we talked back and forth about what would be the best outfits for the location.
HERE ARE MY 3 TIPS FOR DRESSING FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS
Bring 2-3 outfits. I normally recommend 1 dressier outfit, 1 casual outfit, and a third outfit that just makes you feel good. I love a long flowy dress for the dressier option because it tends to make for beautiful movement in the images. Your outfits should also be on the same level of “dressiness”.
COLORS: Dress in warmer earthy tones, neutral or keep it simple. I usually recommend thinking about the location you’re going to be shooting in and dressing in colors complimentary to what that landscape is like. The two of you should also be in complimentary colors to each other.
AVOID: I generally recommend avoiding neons, or overly bold patterns or logos. Neon colors can photograph weird and cast color onto your skin tones. Overly bold patterns or logos can be distracting and people’s eyes tend to go to those distracting elements versus what we want them to be looking at (the two of you!) Simple is BEST.
Why Take Engagement Photos at Mt. Rainier?
I love Mt. rainier (obviously, I mean who doesn’t??) it quite literally has it all - mountains, forests, rivers, etc. It’s a nature lover's paradise. Mt. Rainier has incredible views all throughout the park, and you’ll find a variety of different trails for all skill levels. You can even park at one of the visitor centers and get an immediate view of the mountains.
Here are a few of my favorite trails through the park:
Tipsoo Lake Trail
Silver Forest Trail
Mt. Fremont Lookout Trail
TIPS FOR WHAT TO WEAR AT YOUR MOUNTAIN ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Make sure to check the weather prior to heading towards the mountain and always bring extra warm clothes to wear in between our locations or in case the weather turns for the cold.
I also recommend bringing extra shoes that are easy to walk around in if you are planning on wearing any type of heel or elevated sole as we will be walking around in the mountains.
Do try on all of your clothes at least a week early so you can make sure you get any necessary undergarments needed for specific tops or dresses.
What to Wear and How to Style it
Brigitte and Sean decided to go for a few different looks during their session and I think all of them went perfectly with our location. I typically recommend warm neutral colors for engagement photos. I highly recommend wearing complementary colors versus matching your partner completely.
I always love pieces with movements, whether that's a long dress or skirt or loose sleeves- anything that can help create some interest in the photo. For accessories, hats are awesome and easy to take on and off. Sunglasses can be great for an edgy look too. A bottle of champagne (or sparkling water depending on the park rules) is always a good go-to prop as well!
